The book’s back cover explains that it ‘examines the church’s response to the rise of far-right thinking in UK society and explores how it can respond more effectively’. A book review my Martyn Whittock for Preach magazine.

BOOK OF THE MONTH: Before The Night Comes: One mans fight for the girls of Brazil's 'exploitation highway'

BOOK OF THE MONTH: Before The Night Comes: One mans fight for the girls of Brazil's 'exploitation highway'

The book is very well written, as one would expect from a journalist, and its aim is to attract support for what Matt’s charity, Menindanca, is doing, and not to convert. I recommend it as a good read, an inspiring story, and insight into what people can do if it matters enough to them that something should be done.

This book is a guide to anyone who wishes to share the biblical vision of what it is to be human. It is difficult, however, to determine to whom the book is aimed. Parts of it will resonate with individuals seeking to live their lives according to their personal vision and experience of biblical teaching but, for others, it is how they live in a multi-cultural society.

Reframing The Prophetic: A Biblical Observation of an Ancient Gift by Christine Westhoff

The author’s central point is that any activity of the Holy Spirit should always point, and direct, toward Jesus. Jesus is the end goal of any spiritual gift. Working from this point, she looks beyond church practices and explains how the arts, work, and worship can be prophetic.

Why God: Stories to Inspire faith by Richard Leonard SJ

Why God: Stories to Inspire faith by Richard Leonard SJ

It is a book whose benefit will come when the thoughts presented have a chance to percolate. Being able to dip into it, read an article which takes perhaps 5-10 minutes and have a moment to pause for thought all make it handy to keep on the coffee table, to help when we need a break to help clear the mind.
